TRAUMA AND VAW WORK: A Symposium for Managers and Directors of VAW Counseling Agencies and Shelters in Central West Region of Ontario

You are invited to participate in a free symposium on the subject of trauma and VAW work - this session will inform a broader symposium for front-line staff and managers to be held in the fall 2012


The day will include a panel discussion with diverse experts in the field of trauma and opportunities for dialogue regarding:

·                  What characterizes trauma and typology of trauma

·                  Grounding techniques

·                  Trauma and the impact on children

·                  Promising practices in trauma and how to identify vicarious trauma in VAW workplace settings

·                  The challenges of trauma work in the context of supervision

Dr. Kristin Trotter, PhD Clinical Therapist, Trauma Specialist – typology of vicarious trauma and innovative grounding techniques

Laree Walters-Boadway, MSW, RSW, RMFT Clinician, Catholic Family Services Peel-Dufferin – effects of trauma on brain function on women and children as well as trauma-informed practice for advanced clinicians

Joanna Bedgood, MSW, RSW Clinical Director, KW Counselling - challenges in naming vicarious trauma in a domestic violence context

Dr. Ginette Lafrenière MA, MSW, PhD - tensions on supervision and vicarious trauma in a unionized working environment
